In 1957, John Scurlock, an engineering and physics professor at a college in Shreveport, Louisiana was researching ideas on how to protect outdoor tennis courts from the weather elements when he saw a news article in Time Magazine. The article described the benefits of nylon rubber coverings used to form domes over swimming pools. After reading the article, the professor determined that this would be a perfect tennis court cover. So with the help of his engineering students, he designed and made an air bubble cover specifically for tennis courts. The bubble , however, never served its true purpose because the students had too much fun playing and bouncing on it. This gave the professor a new idea though, and he went back to the drawing board and created the first bounce unit, now called Space Walks.
Although the first Space Walk design was not as popular as the Space Walk designs today, the professor continued adapting and testing new designs. After several years of experimenting and testing, some changes were made and the first Space Walk was finally ready, which created an entire industry. Since that time, Space Walk has continued to expand its business and revolutionize the industry by developing and providing top quality inflatables, excellent customer service and innovative ideas. Today Space Walk, under the direction of the inventor’s son, Frank Scurlock, is recognized for being both the inventors of an industry and the leading provider of fun in America.
